It’s a full body workout

  • Rock climbing works on core strength as it helps you maintain your balance to keep the body close to the wall.
  • Forearms, arms, and shoulders are all fully activated and working as you shoot rocks.
  • When you learn and climb with the right technique, you rely on your legs and glutes for the power to push you upward.
  • Back muscles like the rhomboids, trapezius, and lats also work when you’re rock climbing.
  • It will also work on your flexibilitywhich is important to reach one point to another.

Improves coordination and balance

Not only the body but also the mind is needed when climbing rocks as you navigate through possible hands and feet which requires better hand-eye-foot coordination. You must always know where you come from, where you are and where you are going. This, along the way, will sharpen your balance, stamina and motor skills.

It’s a great cardio workout

In the same way building strength in every major muscle group, climbing is also a fabulous cardiovascular exercise and gives you the calorie burn equivalent to a spinning workout. This is because it incorporates both aerobic exercise and muscle building.

Things to do before climbing

It should be noted that there is no “light” version of climbing, especially if you do it outdoors. Therefore, this is not a workout intended for someone who is just beginning their fitness journey. A person must have adequate training before and even during the attempt. To prepare for the same, you can practice upper body exercises such as push-ups, pull-ups and triceps dips to work the upper body, plankcrunches and hanging leg raises to strengthen your core, as well as squats and lunges to strengthen your lower body.
