Climbing gym announces plans to expand to Hampton – Daily Press

HAMPTON — Here’s some heartbreaking news: A popular rock climbing gym that has locations in Norfolk and Virginia Beach is expanding to the Peninsula.

Latitude Climbing + Fitness announced on Facebook that it plans to open a new location in early 2023 in downtown Peninsula in Hampton.

The first Latitude location opened about four years ago, near downtown Norfolk and Ghent. According to Virginian-Pilot records, the owners decided to expand to Virginia Beach in late 2020 after seeing how popular the Norfolk location has become.

The Hampton spot will feature a 48-foot high rock climbing wall. The climbing area will be approximately 15,000 square feet, according to the Facebook post. The building will have two floors of climbing walls and offers with ropes as well as bouldering – a form of rock climbing without the use of ropes or harnesses.

Like Latitude’s other two locations, the Hampton facility will also offer yoga classes, fitness and climbing teams for young people.

Latitude welcomes beginners and offers bouldering for climbers of all skill levels, according to its website. The gym is also open to children of all ages under adult supervision.

The climbing gym offers climbers the option to spend a day or join. Subscribed users can use any of the Latitude gyms in the area.
