ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Grab your carabiner. First Ascent Climbing and Fitness announced earlier this month that it will build a new indoor climbing and fitness center in Arlington Heights in January 2022.
When complete, First Ascent Arlington Heights will be First Ascent’s largest site, with 45,000 square feet of space for rock climbing, yoga, fitness and social outings, according to a press release. The facility is an adaptive reuse of the former CoCo Key Water Resort adjacent to the Arlington Downs residential and commercial development.
“We’re thrilled to have some ground breaking on a project that’s been a long time coming,” said Jon Shepard, co-founder and chief business development officer of First Ascent. “We believe in creating spaces that inspire and connect people. The expanse of space, combined with the exciting climbing terrain, courses and programs we are known for, will make a visit to First Ascent Arlington Heights an unforgettable experience.”
The Arlington Heights Gymnasium will offer climbers of all skill levels the opportunity to scale climbing terrain up to 50 feet high, complete with auto-belay, top rope, lead climbing as well as a dedicated bouldering area and walls climbing training.
In addition to the climbing terrain, First Ascent Arlington Heights will offer a one-stop-shop for all your fitness needs, including a full gym and yoga program, locker rooms with showers and code lockers, and a boutique. climbing gear, according to the press release. The fitness space will include professional-grade cardio and workout equipment as well as group fitness classes, and the two yoga studios will host more than 30 yoga classes per week. Free Wi-Fi and plenty of social lounging areas round out the amenities.
First Ascent visitors can purchase a day pass to access all amenities, with climbing gear also available to rent if you don’t have your own. Monthly, annual and family memberships will also be available, as well as youth and adult climbing lessons, corporate birthday and event packages, group fitness programs and personal training.
